OBX Sea Turtles (2015) – Nest #12

OBX Sea Turtles (2015) – Nest #12

Nest #12 – 11 July 2015 – Duck NC
First-year ATV driver Sarah Dilley was surprised to see a crawl and nestsite on the beach in Duck NC. The only problem was, there was no crawl back to the sea. Evidently visitors had come out to the beach early to stake their claims on the beach by placing their chairs and umbrellas. All of their action obliterated the outgoing crawl. Luckily Sarah was alert enough to investigate the situation.

You may remember from last year’s reports that some of us believe wearing turtle paraphernalia will increase our chances of finding a nest or having a nest hatch. As we waited in vain for Nest #16 to hatch last year, we designed turtle boxers to wear for luck. Sarah had hers on today and that is probably why she was so lucky to find such an unusual crawl. Do you think tokens like jewelry and boxers really work? We know they aren’t magic but like to pretend they help.

With the expert response team of Sarah Dilley, Jim Dilley, and Louise Vance the eggs were immediately found, the nest was marked off and Sarah was on her way hoping to find another crawl. Those were lucky boxers but not that lucky! One nest in a run is more than enough to make an ATV driver happy.
