Loggerhead Hatchlings Stolen from NC Beach

by Mark MacAllister
August 17, 2009

More than eighty loggerhead turtle hatchlings were stolen from a nest on North Carolina's Ocean Isle Beach. The early-August theft is all the more critical given that the National Marine Fisheries Service recently reported that loggerhead populations in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans face extinction. More information is available on Scientific American's website.
